2021 Sell-Out and Multiple Gold Awards Commands 2022 Allocation of Borchetta Bourbon
After the overwhelming reception of Big Machine Distillery’s inaugural Borchetta Bourbon release in 2021, the family has chosen to continue with its racing-themed and award-winning fine spirit, offering the 2022 allocation exactly one year later to again coincide with Nashville’s Big Machine Music City Grand Prix IndyCar® race.
Each barrel of this premium bourbon has been distilled in-house and has been hand-selected by the family from Big Machine’s Tennessee barrel warehouse. Every bottle is from a single barrel source, left at cask strength, and represents a style unique to its red, white or blue corn and carefully selected yeast strains. And although each bottle tells its own unique story, you will find a consistent foundation of rich, smoked wood followed by any number of subtleties from sugar maple, caramel, vanilla, rose blossoms to ripe tree fruits.
While the 2021 limited allocation featured a bronze statuette of the 1911 Indy 500® winning Marmon Wasp, atop this year’s limited allocation bottle sits the 1972 AAR Eagle IndyCar®, serial number 7201. The significance of this winged speedster, driven by three-time Indy 500 winner Bobby Unser, is that it is the first IndyCar® to break the 200mph barrier (at the former Ontario Motor Speedway). The car won four times in 1972 and saw Bobby break every track record that season. It is a museum piece which resides in the personal collection of music industry mogul Scott Borchetta, and represents this release’s homage to the iconic Unser racing family.
“The Unser family have always been amongst our biggest racing heroes and it brings us great pride to honor them and keep telling their amazing racing stories,” says Big Machine CEO Scott Borchetta.
“As has been the case a few times with me and my brother, this project started on a whim,” says Big Machine Distillery Executive Vice President, Mark Borchetta. “We had been researching information to provide background for the Inaugural Big Machine Music City Grand Prix around the same time our first run of bourbon would be available. Upon unearthing the amazing photo that graces our bourbon bottles, and finding out that the IndyCars® had also raced at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in 1911, Scott blurted out “Mark, let’s create a racing-themed bourbon!”
We immediately gathered our great creatives at Big Machine Distillery and, together, created something bigger than any of us could have ever imagined.”
The first and only run of the 2021 Borchetta Bourbon has become so scarce that the distillery only makes it available to select customers at the Big Machine tasting rooms in Nashville and Lynnville, TN. The 2022 allocation is another extremely limited allocation which will hit the shelves August 5th in only four states: Tennessee, Florida, Texas and Indiana.
For fans of open-wheel racing and fine spirits, we invite you to sit back and share in our ardent passion for the world of racing and the appreciation of fine spirits…
